‘Could Get Done Soon’: Southampton Submit Bid for ‘Exceptional Talent’

'Could Get Done Soon': Southampton Submit Bid for 'Exceptional Talent' 1

With the transfer deadline nearing, Southampton is desperate to sign a goalkeeper and has returned for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.

Aaron Ramsdale is nearing a transfer to Southampton and is in advanced talks with Arsenal.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Southampton has launched an official proposal for Ramsdale and is making good progress in negotiations. The St Mary’s Stadium-based club has renewed their interest in the Englishman after failing to complete the signing of Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow.

The agreement is expected to be concluded soon, with all parties involved remaining optimistic. Ramsdale is reportedly at the top of Southampton’s goalkeeper target list.

Arsenal prefers a permanent sale, although they are willing to consider a loan move. However, they may require any possible agreement to include an initial fee of more than £5 million as well as a commitment to buy at the conclusion of the season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers, who had previously expressed interest in Ramsdale, ended negotiations with Arsenal due to pricing differences.

Why Does Southampton Need Ramsdale?

The Saints returned to the Premier League in 2024, following a season in the Championship. Now, they will be eager to stay in the top flight and enjoy the fame and riches that come with it.

To consistently play in the top league of English football, they require a quality shot-stopper. Gavin Bazunu has one. However, the Irish teenager sustained an achilles injury during a pre-match warm-up in April 2024. As a result, he is out until 2025.

Due to Bazunu’s injury, Southampton had to start games with Alex McCarthy, who is 34 years old. Though the former England international helped them win promotion, the club could benefit from having a younger goalie who can compete with Bazunu.

Ramsdale, 26, has 214 senior appearances and has played for prominent clubs such as Arsenal. He also has a talent for developing close bonds with the supporters, like he did at the Emirates. So far, he’s been nothing short of “exceptional,” and Southampton was drawn to his strong CV.

Arsenal have chosen Joan Garcia of Espanyol as their first option successor if Ramsdale goes. Personal terms were reached with the Spaniard, who has a £21 million release.
